Calder Eats New Mexico

Fry Bread!Road Trip! Believe it or not this was actually Jef's idea, not that she had to work hard to convince me. ;)

We drove the 863 miles to Santa Fe to spend Thanksgiving with Calder's Great-Grand Parents! who drove 600+ miles from Kansas. Along the way we ran some erands, and ate a lot of great food. We went to the Coyote Cafe for our Thanksgiving Day meal, and it was scrumptious.

As you can see there was a bit of snow on the ground and it was fairly chilly, so we bundled the boy up well for the experience. We did spend a little time playing with the snow outside our hotel room, and Calder was fascinated! with the cold stuff that stuck to his hands.

Off Roadin'As many of you know I have a soft spot for New Mexico, and sharing some of my childhood memories with Calder & Jef was a real treat. We hiked around Bandelier and got to take the new stroller for an off road test drive. Fortunately, the area we were hiking was sheltered from the wind and the temperature was quite pleasant. We didn't try to go anywhere where we couldn't wheel the stroller, but it was still a lot of fun. Surprisingly, there were a lot of people there, with lots of children, and one was kind enough to take a picture of our entire group.

Calder in '04Alec in '76Afterward, we went up to Los Alamos and fed the ducks at Ashley Pond, just as I did almost 30 years ago. Calder wasn't entirely sure about all of the commotion, but seemed to be ok with sharing his cheerios. There were a couple of geese as well, and within a few minutes every critter in the pond was fousing all thier attention on Calder.

On our way home on Saturday, we stopped at Acoma Pueblo, which was having an arts and crafts fair, so we shopped, listened to the live band, and ate fry bread! Maybe next time we'll make it to the top of the mesa. From there it was a mere 12 hours of driving back to L.A.

Sounds like a fun trip! I like New Mexico as well although I am not sure I could live there. Milly's in Albuquerque is a favorite. I've been to the Coyote Cafe but only for a drink. My bad. :)

We ate Thanksgiving dinner out as well which, while non-traditional, means a lot fewer dishes. :)
